We are pleased to announce that Dr. Lily O’Hara has been confirmed as a speaker at PHTT 2015!
Dr. O’Hara is a public health educator and practitioner and has worked extensively in Australia and the UAE. She currently works on teacher education at the Emirates College for Advanced Education as an Assistant Professor.
Before joining the Emirates College for Advanced Education, she spent two years at the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) as the head of health promotion. At HAAD, her and her team created and implemented several programs addressing several high priority health issues such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and road safety in the UAE.
In addition to these intervention programs, Dr. O’Hara has also worked on community, workplace and school based programs addressing a wide variety of health and wellbeing related issues.
Prior to moving to the UAE, she worked at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia for 13 years as the discipline leader of undergraduate and graduate public health programs.
Her research is focused on assessing health and wellbeing, analysing currently public health approaches to body weight and developing ethical and evidence based public health initiatives using the weight-neutral, ‘Health at Every Size.’ model. She also works on building the ethical and technical capabilities of the health promotion workforce.
Dr. O’Hara’s talk at PHTT 2015 will focus on weight-neutral approaches to obesity and how they can be implemented.
