He who has health has hope; and he who has hope has everything.
Health is a fundamental human right and a prerequisite for leading a long, successful life. Public health interventions strive to ensure that everyone benefits from the best available medical science.
The Public Health Think Tank invites students from universities all across the UAE to partake in a two-day event where they will work together to develop innovative interventions that target local public health issues. This year, the event will focus more specifically on interventions against obesity amongst adolescents and school children.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 2.1 billion people – about 30 per cent of the world’s population – are obese or overweight. Obesity is one of the most prevalent and problematic diseases in the Arab World, and the obesity rate in the UAE is double the world average.
The event will feature talks by several distinguished guest speakers, brainstorming sessions and workshops related to public health. The majority of the event will be devoted to an immersive workshop where delegates will develop and present an obesity intervention strategy to a panel of judges, who will evaluate their proposals based on feasibility, originality, and effectiveness.
The event will be hosted at New York University Abu Dhabi’s new campus on Saadiyat Island on 30 – 31 Oct 2015.
